4 Hours of Spa Classic All is full, it’ll be an exiting race !
For two months already, there’s not a single spot left on the starting grid of the 4 Hours of Spa Classic !
81 teams have entered the race that’ll take place on the track of Francorchamps on Saturday the 2nd of July at the occasion of the Bikers’Classics. The 162 riders will have to get the very best out of themselves but also out of their machines built before 1980 in order to appear at the starting grid.
The entry list is somehow special, as most of the participants are foreign teams. From all over Europe, endurance specialists have registered, some even knew a few moments of glory in the past.
So it would not be surprising if the podium turned out to be as diversified as last year. Twelve months ago, the Spanish riders Segarra-Segarra on their Moto Guzzi took advantage of the bad luck of the Frenchmen Charles Artigues-Sleurs to overtake the Dutch team De Ridder (father and son) and the Anglo-Belgian team Smith-Gysbrecht.
For many teams, the 2011 edition will be a moment of revenge. We’re specifically thinking of the Phase One Endurance team who won the world title in 2000, of Van Dijk Laverda Racing with riders Henk Van Der Mark and Dirk Brand, winners of Le Mans in 1984, of the RCR of Roger Ruiz, one of the big names in endurance in the eighties, of the Dholda Classic with Stéphane Mertens, ex-world champion endurance who hopes to wipe the electrical troubles of last year out of our minds. And then there are names such as Dury-Dumain, French vice champion, Eric Mizera who finished third in the world championship in 2009, Tom De Kimpe who’ll be riding with Piet Sonck, Patrick Orban, Phil Davenport and Grant Meville, Christian Ganter, Andreas Peck, Parravano – Di Carlo, Italian classic endurance specialists and Ian Martin, ex teammate of Stéphane Mertens.
A long list of favourites that can change at all times as a result of incidents or unforeseen circumstances that are typical for endurance races. A list that promises nice battles also, not just for the victory but in all layers of the peloton. A list filled with great names, but also with magnificent historical machines, as pretty or even prettier than the modern ones...
